Proteins: building blocks of the body!

Protein is one of the macronutrients for our body. We require them in relatively large amounts for normal function and good health. Macronutrients give us energy and fulfil many functions in your body.
Proteins are building blocks for all the cells in the body. Most of our cells renew continually for example your skin, intestine cells, healing of wounds and building muscles. Those cells renew when there is enough protein to do so.

Animal and plant protein

The building blocks of proteins are amino acids, imagine a beaded chain. Some amino acids can be created by the liver, others can only enter the body with foods.

We can find protein in meats but also in vegetarian products. Important sources are: meat, fish, eggs, mushrooms, nuts, seaweed and legumes. Every products contains their own unique combination of amino acids. By eating all different protein sources your body gets every amino acids it needs to perform at your full capacity.

Try these combinations!

By combining different protein sources you give your body the full package of amino acids. Here are some different combinations who reinforce each other. Here are some of our top combinations:

•  Couscous with chick peas
•  Pea soup with rye bread
•  Stir-fried vegetables with nuts
•  Vegetables omelet
•  Yoghurt with nuts
•  Chicken with creamy mushroom sauce

Make sure every meal contains enough protein, and keep varying the protein source!
